The findings of the analysis indicate that the suggested cycle counting approach counts 38 total full charge/discharge cycles for a 2 MW/1 MWh BESS which is providing frequency response ancillary service within a one-month period.
The rise in renewable energy utilization is increasing demand for battery energy-storage technologies (BESTs). BESTs based on lithium-ion batteries are being developed and deployed. However, this technology alone does not meet all the requirements for grid-scale energy storage.
