Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries for sustainable energy storage. Its widespread availability and lower cost make it an attractive option for future energy storage solutions.
Sodium-ion batteries are increasingly developed due to their abundant sources and lower price. Their energy storage mechanism is almost identical to that of lithium-ion batteries, making them a viable reference . Fig. 2 shows the working mechanism of sodium-ion batteries.
Prismatic sodium-ion battery cells have better space efficiency and thermal management, making them ideal for larger energy storage applications but more expensive . The last model of the Na-ion battery design is the pouch cell design.
Fig. 2 shows the working mechanism of sodium-ion batteries. The principal components of sodium-ion batteries include anode, cathode, and electrolyte. These components are crucial for performance aspects such as thermal resistance, energy storage capacity, cycling performance, and safety.
